Animated bump map generator for ripples/waves?

I've just created a few generic animated grayscale maps for animating
the bump map of a water surface (or any surface I guess) but it's kind
of hokey...

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a grayscale generator meant to
create/simulate realistic water surfaces?
