How best to do text labels on basic objects? 2005-03-04 - By Douglas Alden Peterson

I'm not sure it's the best way, Vince, but I always create a text label outside of Carrara in Photoshop or similar program and use FLAT projection to place it on the cube's full face.
The only problem with doing this is that you MUST make sure you create the text in the color you want with the background color on the same image and that it MUST be created in the same proportion as the face of the cube.
If I want a bump for it, I will also create a black text on white background image of the same dimensions and place that in the Bump channel.
You can also create a text image and a transparency image with the same dimensions and then just use a rectangular layer. That gives you the flexibility of changing the cube's dimensions after you place it, but it also introduces the clungy transparency issue of placing a label on the cube's face.
