backup/2nd hard disk + CD/DVD search/db

backup/2nd hard disk + CD/DVD search/db

I do both....recommend this approach:
Second internal hard drive runs data/key files backup update automatically
every few hours in background using: "second copy"
http://www.secondcopy.com/
excellent and inexpensive app, easy to use, many variables, highly
recommended by users, award winner 2004
since its incremental, you don't even know its running, does not interrupt
workflow

I backup hard disk data/key files to DVD+RW monthly and DVD+R 2x/year for
offsite storage.

Since I have so many (100's) CDs and DVDs, I also use a free (no adds,
upgrade $ version available) CD/DVD index/search/database engine: "cdtree"

Regarding your backup system, may I suggest that, from now on, you use
removable hard disk instead of CDs, DVDs and the like ?
Prices dropping, the best choice now for data backup is just .. a second,
removable (USB or the likes), hard disk.
If your hard disk is 160 Mb, then by a second 160 Mb disk and use it for
weekly (or whatever) backups of your hard disk.
Not only this is cheaper than most other tapes or optical disks solutions,
but is is also faster.
Typically, you can back-up a 100 Mb IDE hard disk onto an USB2 removable IDE
hard Disk in about 2 hours.
