Hi Kris,
Depending on the shape of your model, you could try to unroll separated
parts of it using the FlattenLine tSx by Matt Bolton. It unrolls faces along
any axis to get a flat 2D shape. Works good with most shapes but need some
practice. There is no undo button, so take care to copy the object before
operation.
