Maximum texture resolution in tS?

Maximum texture resolution in tS?

I ran into the same problem with one of my scenes (there were a number
of very large tree images and associated clip maps and one whopper 5400
x 2700 image used as a sky dome....over 8.5 Mb's...basically, movie film
grade resolution)....which then left me the issue of reducing ALL the of
textures in my scene just to make the larger files work.  So I was faced
with 1) re-sizing each texture to a different file name and then 2)
remapping the newly named images back onto each object in the original
scene.....yuck..a bit of a pain.

But I found a quick work-around.

Archive the scene.  Then go to the archive folder where each and every
texture used in the original scene is copied and stored.  Open up each
of the larger textures in your favorite photo-editing app, reduce the
size and then save it back to the original file name in your archive
directory.

Open up the tS scene that was stored in the archive directory and
everything should be fine.

The original and larger textures are still preserved and you don't have
to remap the renamed and reduced textures to your original scene.

Thanks,
Dave Angelini

Distinct possibility. I've nevered tried to max out the scene with big
textures before. One thing, I would personally not use a texture that
big for anything but the background. I always saw it as a waste of time
to use a 2k texture on a scene that was only rendered out to 1500x1200.
Just a thought...

Strange ... the texture that was giving me problems was only 4050 X 1479
(Heh heh ... yeah ONLY) ... :O)

There are a lot of other large textures used in my scene, though. I
wonder if there isn't some sort of maximum amount of memory allocated
for textures in a scene. Is it possible that I've maxed out the allotted
memory even though the individual textures aren't over the allowable
resolution? The image / texture was rendering fine early on during the
construction of my scene, but once the geometry got to somewhere over
150,000 polys, the texture wouldn't render anymore.
