I hadn't even thought about the inside of the shade yet, but didn't
think about the no shadows thing. Good insight from both you and Per.

for the texture on the inside of the lamp shade to damp down the
interior shadows.

To totally eliminate the shadows on the "inside" of the lamp shade use
the constant reflectance shader. (This is the shader I use when I want
to show a bright light or fire i.e. something you *never* want to have a
shadow cast on)
