Thanks Thomas, I am aware of that method.
I have made a series of renders for comparison.
The first shows just a part, it is renderd 3 times the original size: http://www.visulogik.com/tS/aa3x.jpg Looks rather nice.
The second is that same render scaled back down 3 times: http://www.visulogik.com/tS/aa3x-1.jpg Just the way I want it!
These first two are with adaptive antialias.
The third is rendered original scale with antialias set 3 times: http://www.visulogik.com/tS/aa3.jpg Very ugly and distorted indeed.
The fourth is also with antialias set to 3, the difference is that all nurbs objects are individually changed to polyhedrons. http://www.visulogik.com/tS/aa3nn.jpg I also rendered this without antialias, with the same result. It is a good exmple why I avoid converting nurbs to polyhedrons.
Nurbs resulotion was set to 1.
