Curve snapping? 2003-12-02 - By Frank McIntyre
Back Duh! I feel rather foolish. Please dissregard my last post on the subject.
The way which is mentioned in the docs, and which I finally understand, is to first select the object who's position you want to move, then MMB click on the object you wan to snap to. Works 100%, at least in the few dozen tests I just did in the last few minutes.
From the 5.0 docs: "When using the Move tool and various creation tools, you can snap to existing objects in the scene. To snap a move, press MMB on the object you want to snap to (pressing LMB will just select the object).
Note: If you have snapping turned on and drag an arrow on the position manipulator (as opposed to the center), the manipulator will snap to the first available point along that axis."
What it fails to say is, "First select the object you wish to move. . ." Seems obvious now, but I've been practicing all sorts of curve-snap-voodoo for years. I think I finally understand it. I should pull up some of the older docs and see if it was so minimally explained there as well.
