A quick and dirty way to try and do this is to use the standard tS 'Glow' Transparency shader. Set the 'Centre coverage' close to to 0 and the 'Edge coverage' near 1 then play with the settings from there. It's tricky to make this work as the effect depends upon the object and the viewing angle to the object but it might help.
