Let the debates begin 2004-06-19 - By Hunter Oaks
Back While not the low end on price by any means, it's hard to beat Alienware. I recently also bought a "special" from TigerDirect. It's branded as a Systemax, and it came with an AMD 64 3000+ processor, a gig of DDR, a 256 MB Radeon vid card, 5.1 sound, DVD-RW burner, and a media card reader that reads 6 or 7 different types of media cards. It also has a firewire card. Without a monitor (of course) this unit cost just under $1K, but I was also able to purchase a Lexmark X1150 Printer/Scanner/Fax with this unit, which, after rebates, was free.
The upside to Alienware is that their hardware is outstanding and their choice of service contracts. Tiger Direct seems to always have some kind of good deal going, and I've had excellent luck with their service department in terms of RMAs, which I've only rarely needed.
My two cents.
