Back Philip,
Welcome to the list and welcome back into the fold! Your methods sound like they would work, but give the transposer-carrara combo a try as well. Carrara's renderer is just as good, and if not better in some ways. Going between 4 different applications sounds a bit unwieldy and if you can avoid it, do. If you have any questions about Carrara, I'm sure one of the 2400 of us could give you a hand. Make sure to check out http://www.3dxtract.com there is a monthly magazine on Carrara and Amapi that might help you with any questions and get you familiar with the program.
