Back 300dpi x 12inches(in one foot) x 5feet = 18,000 on the 5 foot dimension.
Assuming that he prints with 300 dpi. If he uses a 133 lpi or 266 lpi (lines per inch) then you could actually use something a little lower, but 300 dpi is usually a safe amount. (Every so often you find printing jobs done with much higher quality)
I hope it's a small scene, because it's going to be a really, really long rendering job, even with your new, fast computer. If you consider the size that tv outputs (640x480), this size would print out as 2.13x1.16 INCHES when converted to be 300 dpi.
What is the other dimension that you've be using?

PS: Is your texture maps up to meet the depends put upon them at this size? If not, then you'll get either pixelization or interpolation on all of your surfaces/mesh.
