I don't really have much to add to Naomi's wonderful insights.  The
animation thing (cloth room = animation) really threw me a couple of
times too until I also figured out what was going on.

Naomi's correct: you can easily port a Poser file into Carrara.  But
it's a one-way street.  You can not port Carrara into Poser.  That's
the bad news.  But the good news is as Naomi says, *for the most
part* any changes you make to your file within Poser are
automatically reflected in Carrara.  (I say, 'for the most part'
because I've *occasionally* seen some odd-ball things happen;
textures that don't update on changed figures being one of the big
items.  Oh, and Transposer seems to have trouble finding textures
located in the alternate 'Download' hierarchy if you happen to use
that method to organize your stuff.  But that's a rather minor
annoyance.  Frankly, when it comes to texturing, I usually do most
of my work in Carrara.  I just like its tools as compared to
Poser's.  But that just a personal preference thing.)

One *major* point I wanted to pass along that hasn't been mentioned
yet.

You can NOT port Poser 5 dynamic hair into Carrara.  It simply
doesn't work.  You get bald characters.  I've had some discussion
about this with the techs both at Evoia and at Curious Labs.  As I
understand it; Poser dynamic hair uses a proprietary method that
simply won't translate into Carrara.  *Period.*  No kludge.  No work-
around.  No way.  It's a bummer too, cuz I'm betting Poser 5 hair
would look simply smashing rendered in Carrara.  :0(

You haven't mentioned this one yet, so I'm hoping that problematic
helmet has spared you from the agony of 'poser hair'.  I just wanted
to give you a heads-up for future reference.  ('heads-up'?  Is that
some kind of pun?)

Anne
