Wow, with a mindset like that, I'm glad you're not in my staff. You should care
if you are
doing this stuff as a professional. Yes, it will take longer to render, but it
's much better to
end up with more data than you need, than not to have enough. Sure, you can
rely on
programs like Photoshop to fill in the gaps and get passable results, but those
programs
don't know anything about the data you give it other than the color of each dot
in the
image. You're only going to get the results of what a photo-editing app does...
modifying
dots.

In Carrara, however, it may not know how to modify dots outside of rendering,
but it has
access to data needed to accurately fill in the gaps that a photo-editor can't
use. Stuff like
3D models, lighting, shaders, distances, camera settings, etc. There is no way
a photo
editor could scale up an image and still have the same quality a larger
rendering straight
out of carrara would give you.

Shame on anyone who'd short-change a client like that just to get a few more
minutes of
free time. :-/
