I don't know whether the plugin is worth it or not; however, the cost of CAD software is irrelevant.
The plugin is not CAD software; neither is Carrara. Very competent CAD software can certainly be found for less than $1500, and often for less than $1000.
My thought is that perhaps this import ability will be integrated into V4. For someone who can use the plugin frequently for paid work, $300 is certainly reasonable. For hobbyists it may be another story.
