My first big question ...

OK. I think I've got it now. I've been plugged into AFX all day today messing
with test renders (and the TRANSFER MODE in the LAYERS menu)and I am achieving
the exact effects I'm looking for. I'm realizing that what I need is in AFX and
Carrara is just the initial step. I was starting to feel a little frustrated.
Thanks for getting me pointed in the right direction. I'll look forward to
reading your tutorial in July and I'll take your advice on getting the AFX
literature.

More animation questions to come!

Thanks again

Dave

What I did to learn how AfterEffects and Carrara work together was to
do Alex Lindsey's multi pass tutorial (and adapt it to Carrara) I found
this tutorial in AfterEffects in Production by janet and chris Morris.
If you don't have their books I would strongly recommend them. My
multipass tutorial is based on Alex's work.

I use a combination of alpha masks and luma masks.

In general, I get the scene working the way I want it, then make
duplicate files for the individual passes.

It gets a little complicated, and is worth the effort.

David
