In the manual of Carrara 3, it states on page 411, second column at the end, "If the image file has an alpha channel associated with it, you can use that information as well!"
Seems to me that carrara should be able to use it. I also can remember that in Carrara 1.1 this was already an issue and they promised that it was fixed in C3.
I have about 500 images wich contain an alpha channel. It's undoable to extract the alpha channel from each image!
