Back Mmmm, not exactly. It is just like the curve controls you get in Photoshop type applications. It modifies the values you feed through it. So Eric's curve is taking the lowest and highest values and pegging them down to black. Input value is left (black) to right (white), output value is black (bottom) to top (white). The starting curve is a diagonal line- or 1 to 1 correspondance of input to output.
