Re: Can you animate a tree? 2004-05-31 - By pmiinalainen
Back Not exactly. Parameters of the tree editor aren't animatable. However, you can do little animation with modifiers like scale, bend/twist etc. When you add modifiers, you have to select full details and show leaves options in the tree editor. Otherwise leaves won't render. This will also slow down your computer a lot.
Other options is to convert tree to vertex object and animate the growing manually. Best control, but hideous loads of work...
I've animated trees with modifiers to get some wind effects etc. Results were almost good... Not too happy with them. Requires lots of testing and tweaking to get realistic results. If you need realistic growth, i'd suggest investigating the options of using tree druid plugin or external applications.
