Back Are your objects on seperate layers? Or are they seperate colors? That might help, it does for me when importing AutoCad into Carrara. Crank your quality options all the way to max too, dunno where those are in Amapi since I don't use it but that's another option.

Hello Group, I'm not so much a newbie as an absolute first timer.
I've been really impressed with the way the group is so free with advice and helpful, thought I'd sit my ask here and see what happens.
I've been working professionally as a designer in the 2D world for... (does thirty years count as a 'little while') Recently discovered a sweet little programme for conceptualising 3D work (mostly interiors and product design) called Sketchup. It's construction is great, but rendering is simply not what it is about. So I bought Carrara's latest version and am swimming around with manuals and turorials right now. I also bought Amapi 7 because it's approach to modelling was better suited to the methodical nature of technical design.
But...
Amapi is not particularly stable on a high end Mac G5 dp. and I am not getting a response from Eovia Europe. So when this particularly annoying problem cropped up I thought I'd ask here.
I modelled a retail display unit in Amapi (it does a much better job of importing 3DS files exported from Sketchup than does C3). All goes well until I try to open files exported or saved in Carrara format. The objects merge into one profoundly deformed muddle.
I have the importer update installed in C3. The Amapi preferences are set to the same measurement system, and all the axes are set to not convert, so x maps to x and so on.
Has anyone else had this problem? I searched the discussion group's archive but couldn't see anything related.
