Star Tweak (formerly "starbright flicker ")

Star Tweak (formerly "starbright flicker ")

As I tweak away at my 16:9 moving starfield for DV output, I'm
curious whether the Object Accuracy setting in the Raytracing panel
in the Render Room has an effect on how smaller stars show up?

A 0.5 setting is supposed to resolve smaller *objects* better, but
does that apply to smaller stars on the Starbright star sphere?

No sense rendering at that level on my starfield pass if it's not
having any effect...

Also, I have a suggestion for a future update of Starbright:  It
would be nice to have control over the range of star sizes.  When
you change the Intensity or Size values, the relative differences in
size between the big stars and small stars appears unchanged.  So to
get the tiny stars big enough not to flicker (even after
oversampling), the bigger stars wind up really huge, which kills
that sci-fi pinpoint stars look that audiences are used to.  (Of
course this is at heart an output resolution problem; if I were
rendering for HD or 35mm instead of DV, we wouldn't be reading these
posts.)

As an alternative, it would be nice to just clip out the smallest
stars--that could make flicker regulation a lot easier.  I have a
couple of sample renders where it's only the tiniest stars that are
flickering at all, and it made me really wish I could just click a
check box and delete them, or just make those stars a hair bigger
without affecting the other stars.
