Back Just my $.02...
Not that Yahoo doesn't have room for improvement, but one thing I do have to agree with David is that it is fast (all things considered). The problems I personally have with "forums" is the higher management ratio when using them. First, you have to look through and choose each forum you are interested in. Then you have to subscribe to each one. Then, when you check back, you have to visit *each* forum and/or topic (depending on how the site is structured) before you get to see the latest post. I don't know about you guys, but that's an awful amount of mouse clicking and work to see who responded to your post. It feels like you have to set up some sort of a tracking system just to keep things straight. Then, if that forum site doesn't have even a mediocre search engine, you're sifting through pages upon pages, looking for an older response.
The "pros" about the Yahoo Groups are that, if you use it like a message board (like I do), you can view *all* of the current posts from *all* of the topics AT-ONE-GLANCE, on one page (well usually one page, unless traffic is really heavy). Then you can scan the subject headings to see if you can either contribute to that topic or if you can just put it aside for future reading, reference, etc.
So while the Yahoo Groups still has problems with spamming, ads, etc., as far as a "delivery" system goes, it is pretty flexible and fast to sift through (especially with the option of either using the e-mail or message board feature).
Cheers.
