are you allowed to make disney characters... 2004-04-19 - By Matthew Schultz
Back Just as a note to everybody, if you really care about public domain Mickey Mouse was supposed to become public domain in 2003 but Disney, along with a number of media companies lobbied to have the Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act passed. This act extends the copyright on Mickey, Donald, Goofey and friends by 20 years. So maybe in 2023 you could use the Disney characters for your work but not now (this only applies to the US).
As artists and content creators you may want to do some of your own research regarding this issue. Its an interesting one and it presents a number of moral questions that are bound to get the juices flowing.

Hi, are you allowed to make disney characters if you change the name and just use them for showing your work ability? Does this infringe copyright?
Thanks Patrick
