There is a selection process for booleans but that is just a simple selection of the two objects involved, and a determination of which boolean operation you wish to choose, after selecting "Edit > 3D boolean". The technique I am refering to is specific to one of three approaches to lathing found in the Vertex Modeler (The Spline Modeler also has a technique for lathing as well). The problem is that there is a tutorial in the manual for only one of these approaches, not all three.
