I haven't tried starbright, but my experience with any small, high
contrast backgrounds has been spotty. (hah! and I wasn't even
trying! ;-)
I've used procedurals on a skydome and had very similar issues. I
tried the spot size a little bigger, but I think I ended up with a
very hi-res bitmap from Universe. I'll try to remember to look when I
get home tonight- that was about a year ago.
