Strange bounding box and parenting problem 2004-03-25 - By northwatchmantech

OK, I have run into this before but never mentioned it. I am creating
a SPN-45 (See http://SPN-45.ora-code.com) RADAR. This radar has a tube camera mounted on top. I create
the tube camera, mounting bands, lens, and mounting block. My parent-
child relationship is:
Mounting Block (parent)
>Camera Tube
>>Camera Lens
>Mounting Bands
My problem is when I then take this parent set and child it to
another another object. The mounting Block (former parent/ now child)
remains at 100% scale, but the children become 50% and move. By move,
if I change their respecive scales back to 100%, they are in the
wrong location and I have to re-locate them to their proper location
in the camera tube.
So then I undo the parenting so I'm back to my orginal parent set. I
thought grouping before parenting would help. This is where I get the
strange bounding box. My mounting box has the y coordinate 7.5. When
I group my 4 objects (all at y = 7.5 or higher), i get a bounding box
that has only the mounting block in it and it looks like another
object (invisible to me) that go to 0 y coordinate. I hope I am
explaining this so that you understand. I can post an image if that
would help.
Anyone have an idea what is happening here?
