Back Ok, I have more reasons...and I appreciate your response, it was rather informative and much more polite than I'm used to getting in mailing lists (why is it that you just expect flame wars online???). Anyway, I believe that Carrara is an awesome application. You read a lot about it being on the second (or even third) tier of the 3D modelling and animation programming hierarchy, with Maya and 3D Studio Max being the kings of the heap. I personally fine Carrara's interface much more user friendly which could take it a long way toward becoming a major contender. Without a viable animation system (better bones) this won't happen. If it takes them 2 or 3 iterations to get the bones right, let it. But don't say things like Carrara doesn't need bones when Poser exists. That's a bit of a defeatist attitude. I don't like Poser. I don't know why. I love the pictures that people make with poser. I browse the DAZ galleries all the time and I'm blown away at how realistic some of the images are. I think applications like Poser will take us a long way to making CG characters indistinguishable from real people. But I personally can't get Poser to do anything but put a naked person in the middle of the screen. Well, that's an exageration, but I don't think Poser's interface, while very similar to Carrara's on the surface, is nearly as user friendly.
I get what you are saying about companion products. I totally agree with you that an artist should use the best tools for specific jobs. I also believe that the more tools that are available the better. Use Poser and Carrara now, but when CS4 comes out and has a better bone/animation system you won't need your plugin. Then you'll be one of those "purists" that will always use Poser, just because. Right? :)
