Video card question 2004-02-26 - By Steve
Back If you go with a ge-force, just don't let microsoft automatically update the driver. lol I have one of last years Dells 2.8 p-4, an fx 5200 128 mb card that does really quite well. I let xp do its automatic update and then my machine wouldn't run the monitor, 17" flat Nec. Since the monitor wasn't running, I couldn't do a thing, not even uninstall the update or reformat the machine. OMG I am not a person who is easily upset, but in this case...With a one month old machine, I was less than amused. :\

Well, the new machine is starting to take shape. It is a PC type, and I have a question for the group mind:
The motherboard is an Intel D875PBZ, the processor is a Pentium 4 Processor, Extreme Edition, 3.2GHz, 800MHz bys, 2M L3 cache (with only a bit of gamer's drool on one corner of the box <g>)
Question: What video card do you-all recommend to go with this system? Any type you especially love or loathe with your software of choice?
My current monitor now looks like it needs to be degaused, so I'm going to get the new one tomorrow. Yes, I've tried to degause; yes, I've turned off and on, both computer and monitor and fooled with the settings and checked cable connections. It remains a funky, wierd, rainbow. I was annoyed and turned off the power while windoze was running. This has never been a problem before, but this time the monitor came back on funky. Oh well, I DID need a new monitor and the chances are this may be coincidence. The thing is about five years old, out of warranty, so it's about time for it to crap out. It's part of a bundled system too - so bad that even tech support winces and says, "Oh, you've got one of THOSE."
