Bill,

After reading some of your comments and reasonings why you want to see
AMAPI and Carrara as a combined piece of software, I can definitely
understand your perspective.  However, I have to say that I am for
leaving both packages as separate entities for now because I think
that Carrara should concentrate on strengthening its weakness
separately from AMAPI and vice-versa.  Also, I have a sneaking
suspicion that if the two were combined, that the price for CS would
no longer be as affordable as it has been.  However, I am for a
compromised solution;  every time AMAPI issues a new release, the
previous release of AMAPI either gets bundled with the latest version
of Carrara or offered to registered CS users at a significantly
reduced rate.  This way, after purchasing Carrara, you would only have
to suffer through one major upgrade of AMAPI, not two or more.

I am still waiting on my inheritance money to purchase AMAPI 7 [ ;) ]
, however, I do think that it should be kept as a separate entity from
Cararra -- for now at least.

Also, btw, to answer your inital question, I do use AMAPI to model and
Carrara for everything else.  After getting over AMAPI's slightly
steeper learning curve, I have made it my default modeler.  I did try
CS modelers at first, but for some reason they just didn't "click" for
me.  And being a newbie to this whole 3D thing, I needed something to
click, and fast.  Matt told me to try AMAPI and to hang in with it,
understanding that it had a slightly higher learning curve than
certain aspects of CS.  Well, I did, and I'm glad that I did.  For me,
AMAPI presents a natural, hands-on approach to modeling whereas I
always had to go through menus in the CS modelers.  Not that the CS
modelers are bad, its just that I felt that AMAPI's interface was more
inviting for modeling.  However, I feel the same way about CS'
assembly, texure, animation, and rendering features.

Cheers.
