Back I do this regularly in Plasma and Max at work. I render out objects with windows like cars and planes and composite them in Photoshop or Flash, depending what I need to do. The underlying image shows through the glass via the alpla mask, which I use to select the image and place in a trasparent layer.
Currently I've made a ship's porthole, and I wanted to use it in a composition that includes redenders from Vue d'Esprit that show through the glass. Looks like I'll have to fake it in Photoshop if I use Carrara.
