Assuming you don't want to animate the star ring... While in the "Model"
room have you considered "Edit" -> "Convert to Other Modeler" -> "Vertex
Model" -> "OK" then removing the sections of stars you don't want within the
vertex modeller (i.e. with the lasso select and delete)?
