Back Bonjour,
For those interested by web3D and VET technology, it appears that outcries about the new license scheme finaly reached the ears of some Viewpoint executives and forced them to ease their policies a bit.
A news was released today with the following content(usefull excerpts followed by my comments) :
"(...)After careful consideration, we have decided to provide full access to our Developer Central site to licensed and non-licensed developers alike (...)We will provide this access at least until we launch our full-featured authoring and compiling tool, which we expect to occur in the third quarter of this year."
This means that the XML-reference guid (the core documentation for anything above a nice hobbyist display of a funny rotating VET object ...) is again on-line without restriction. I strongly recommend anyone interested to site-suck it quickly before it vades again in the void ...
"For licensed developers, we are easing the restrictions on use of Viewpoint?s Communication API feature to permit interactivity between user interface elements in the HTML page and the Viewpoint scene."
The full signification of this is not clear yet. It means that it is now possible again, with the $900/year lciense, to pilote the VET scene from the enclosing HTML page but it is not clear if more complexe interactions, such as real-time data feed, is now allowed.
"We will soon be introducing licensing programs for not-for-profit organizations, students, and educational institutions"
It is not clear neither from this if renewable licenses for hobbyist and things similar will resume or if new but currently unknwown schemes will prevail.
