I have a similar problem on my Win98SE PC. Worked with Matt at Eovia
and have not been able to resolve.
Mine is intermittent problem; reboot CS3.0.3 always fixes for a while
but after some added use, like maybe an hour, problem recurs.  I have
plenty of RAM, hard drive space, and system resources and I defrag
etc. regularly...makes no difference. I am "living with it".

A work-around is to render, under "output" tab,  "in named
file:"...that seems to always work.
