trueparticles and how to enable particle collisions

Hey folks. How can I enable collisions for a trueparticles particle system?
The particles correctly interact with objects in the scene (bounce off),
but if the particles collide with each other, they do not bounce off each
other. Rather, they run into each other. Any ideas on how to enable
collision detection for particle interaction?
