Lathe and standalone deformation 2004-05-18 - By Michael C Horner
Back The Case of the Incredible Almost Identical Icons strikes again! Take any curve, open or closed. This represents the cross section of your jug, bottle, cup, whatever. Now draw a circular curve the diameter you want for the 'lathed' object. This too can be a closed or open curve, for now make it closed. Re-select the first curve, Find the 'Loft Surface' (looks almost like the 'Rail surface') Icon and click it. The Help bar prompts you to 'Pick a rail curve'. Select the second, circular curve. Instant 'lathe'! Not quite right? Use the arrow keys to select either the profile or the rail curve and manipulate each curve either as a whole with object move/rotate/scale or point by point with the (right click the curve) curve Point Move tool. To escape the curve Point move tool select another object in the scene or in the object info box. Both curves remain available and editable until you click the 'Convert NURBS object with construction history to plain patch'. After that you can further refine the shape with the normal Patch Edit tools if you wish.
