Yes, Steven they's sposda.  :-)

The dolly/pan/bank only work in the CAMERA views.
Each time you work in Left, Right, Bottom, Top, Front
and Back, they will gray out to let you know those
tools don't work in that view.

A couple of things that might help you:
1. The dolly/pan/bank tools work differently depending
on what object you have selected. They each rotate, etc.
around the selected object or part of an object. If nothing
is selected, the rotate around the center of the scene.

2. If the camera view gets wildly distorted, use the
second from the top tool in the set of tools above
the dolly/pan/bank tools. (I don'thave Carrara opened
now so I can't tell you the exact name.) When the
scene is distorted use that tool to pull back. That will
usually get you out of the mess.

3. Learn the keyboard commands for zoom in and out.
On my Mac, if I hold down the Z key, my cursor becomes
the magnifier and I can draw a marquee around the object
I want to zoom in on. If I hold down the Z and also press
the Option key, I can zoom out. Holding down the space
bar changes the cursor to the hand tool. Those commands
will save you a lot of time.

No, not in any measurable way. The dolly/pan/bank works
a little differently in the Texture Room. You don't have as
much control.
