WORLD MAP Answer [Re: Need to Find a Tutorial on Creating a Soc 2004-02-15 - By Andrew Turner
Back He just said that to discourage people. ;)
Personally, I don't believe in that way of thinking when it comes to 3d or any "modular" endeavor - meaning, if you have to build a model of a house, you don't necessarily need to know how to manipulate every other non-necessary tool... and if you really get to know the tools needed to build that house, you can, quite frankly, do brilliant work.
This isn't to say the other things don't help - but it's not like mastering only bishops and expecting to win a game.

Thanks so much, it's not that I have to have all these things, Carrara does alot more than I can at present. I am simply learning its "rules". It's almost like learning how to play chess all over again. :) I am giddy, my mind is a whirlwind of expectation as I discover the possibilities. I am already working on some cartoons and posters and biz cards and flyers and junk for the biz and for fun. Oh, plus a new website etc... but really, all I am doing now is delving into it head first. I had basics for the last 7 or 8 months and picked up some stuff watching you folks and reading all the posts, but my interest has picked up since I got c3 and vectorstyle last month. I want to absorb it all now. :) Fonts have been a challenge for me today, some it likes, others it doesn't seem to... It's like getting to know a truly magnificant female, you just want to dive right in, but you know it takes patience and some degree of feeling clumsy before you reach any level of comfort. My old hero Capablanca once said a person must lose ten thousand games of chess before they can win one brilliancy. I have another 9 thousand games or so to go. lol

Hi Steve,
I know that there are great tutorials and books that can help you learn Carrara (I am planning to pick up my Carrara Studio 3 Handbook this Monday). If you need any info on these, just let me know.
Also, there are other products out there which can actually convert raster images (BMP, JPEG, TIFF, etc.) to vector images (AI and EPS). One is called Vector Eye which I have used successfully but have allowed the trial version to run out. It used to cost about $30, but now it costs about $51 for the Classic version and $64 for the Pro.
Here is the link: http://www.siame.com/buy.html
With the increase in price, I am now trying to consider purchasing some other software that can simply yield true EPS formatted file (I normally use Paint Shop Pro 7 but the EPS files it produces are unfortunately not recognized by Carrara Studio 3's Spline Editor).
Well, wish you the best on your journey through CS3.
Cheers,
Claudia "Selocic" (a newbie)

I don't really have any adobe products (yet), which may not be so good. I am simply trying to learn different ways to use Carrara and am learning lofting and such. I want to convert simple 2d images, 2d logos etc... to 3d. I read every post in this forum and while I don't understand half of what you guys are talking about yet,... One by one the lights are slowly coming on. :) > > -- --Original Message-- -- > From: Harvey White [mailto:madyn@(protected)] > Sent: Saturday, February 14, 2004 6:42 PM > To: Carrara@(protected) > Subject: Re: [Carrara] WORLD MAP Answer [Re: Need to Find a Tutorial on Creating a Soccer Ball...] > > > On Sat, 14 Feb 2004 23:30:49 -0000, you wrote: > > >Hello Steve, > > > >As far as I know, the Spline Editor only accepts *.AI or *.EPS files > >(vector-based files, that is).
