Back ok a pic of what I have so far for a human hip/leg setup... no constraints applied yet. (its a nude unrendered untextured human Daz female model in the Carrara assemble room, don't click if you are offended by mild nudity)

anyway, my thinking is, I will experiment with bones paralleling the outer thigh bones that run up the inner thigh up to the pelvis, to get a smoother deformation of the musculature when the Rhip rotates outward, I still need to figure out how to smooth more when the figure is bent from the waist. I've been looking for information on rigging everywhere I can, the literature for Carrara to build a human rig is very sparse/nonexistant.
I realised that having two joints in the hip and two in the knee was better than one, and I posed this figure in Poser to have the legs set slightly apart and the shoulder slightly bent downward, so that the figure was easier to set up joints in Carrara. The default setup for Poser is not easy to bone in Carrara. I realised with legs bent straight down, it was a perfect bear to try to create a hip joint that worked really well. And then after this (if I ever get anywhere lol)... I attempt the shoulder... another hugely difficult project lol. Knees and elbows I can do great, its the rotating ball type joints that cause incredible problems with mesh tearing.
any help on hip joints is greatly appreciated...
