Just posted a 1:26 from a G5 dual 2 over there.

By the way, I got a 1:43 with light through transparency, sky light (from
default sky at 50% completion) and indirect lighting enabled, also with
improved edges enabled. However, the highlights are blown!! Yeah baby!

What I'd like to know is why light through transparency is disabled by
default for that scene!

One more with all the previous high quality settings enabled but with the
default lights removed... 1:54... wha?

Andrew

vilivallaton,

What kind of windows open when you launch Carrara? I've used it on a G4 anda G5,
and no windows open when I launch it. Are you sure you've quit it between uses?
As
for funky colors, could it be that you've chosen some Open GL settings thatare
not
supported by your video card? I played with Open GL, and my Nvidia card
definitly
didn't like some of the options available via Carrara.

As to the speed, I haven't run Carrara on a PC, but in an informal discussion on
Renderosity a few people compared rendering speeds for a variety of computers,
and
I tested my Dual 1.8GHz G5. It fared well: it was a bit twice as fast as a
single 1.8 GHz
Athlon when rendering the "Milk" scene that comes with Carrara. My machine has
more RAM than the PC, but with that simple scene I don't think RAM was an issue.

If you're seeing bad rendering times, I'd guess that RAM is probably the issue
(although I don't know how much RAM you have, of course). Once you run out of
RAM
and start using virtual memory, everything will go downhill drastically.

Here's the thread on Renderosity. I think you have to be registered to see it.
