Re: G5 2004-02-08 - By joe_ashear
Back vilivallaton,
What kind of windows open when you launch Carrara? I've used it on a G4 and a G5, and no windows open when I launch it. Are you sure you've quit it between u ses? As for funky colors, could it be that you've chosen some Open GL settings that are not supported by your video card? I played with Open GL, and my Nvidia card def initly didn't like some of the options available via Carrara.
As to the speed, I haven't run Carrara on a PC, but in an informal discussi on on Renderosity a few people compared rendering speeds for a variety of compute rs, and I tested my Dual 1.8GHz G5. It fared well: it was a bit twice as fast as a single 1.8 GHz Athlon when rendering the "Milk" scene that comes with Carrara. My machine has more RAM than the PC, but with that simple scene I don't think RAM was an i ssue.
If you're seeing bad rendering times, I'd guess that RAM is probably the is sue (although I don't know how much RAM you have, of course). Once you run out of RAM and start using virtual memory, everything will go downhill drastically.
Here's the thread on Renderosity. I think you have to be registered to see it. http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage37261
