Question about welding, or whatever...

Question about welding, or whatever...

When I use this technique I plan to do one of two things

1. select all the edge points (and naming them would be a good idea) and moving
them an appropriately placed drawing plane. This makes for a clean weld,
particularly if you use that drawing plane to mirror around.

2. Alternatively, I use the stitch tool to stitch up the seam. This, more often
, I use to repair mesh I have had to cut away for one reason or another.

Further, as a note, I try to avoid vertex objects made from splined objects.
The resulting mesh can be quite ugly.  What I do is bring the spline object
into the vertex editor, then build a set of stations, using the splined object
as a guide, then loft these stations together to get a nice regular mesh.  More
work in the short run, much sanity saved in the long run.

Hope this helps.

Yours,
David

Subject: [Carrara] Question about welding, or whatever...

 Hi!

 Ok.. here's the story -

I've created HALF an object in Spline modeler, then converted to Vertex to
 duplicate with symmetry and edit.

Once the model is in Vertex modeler, I'd like to be able (after duplicating
with symmetry) to select points from one of the spline modeler's sections
and Fill Polygon - right off the bat it won't work, probably because the
halves aren't attached - so I need to figure out a way to do this. I've
tried welding the top and bottom points of the section in an attempt to make
it a complete uninterrupted polygon but that didn't work...

I've posted an image for reference at

Please have a look - any suggestions greatly appreciated!

 Thanks,
 Andrew
