Hello, I will try to address your Carrara questions.

No ,this is not normal. You could update your graphic card's drivers which helped me out of things like this. Also switch to the "software" renderer as opposed to "opengl" .

I change it in each channel . There is a plug-in called shader ops that lets you apply textures relative to size.It has functions like "real uv,uv repeater" .I find it very useful when I do architectural illustrations so that my brick is always the same size on all different walls of my building. I dont have to worry about the size being different on different walls.The plug in is $30 by Digital carvers guild.

You could use a "layer" in the render room that hold your image texture and size the layer shape accordingly.
