Dave, You nailed that one on the head, I have already e-mailed Marcel congratulating him on his victory, a discerning eye can easily see that his was the best peice , modeling/rendering/composition, no offense to the great work by others, and yes art is subjective. If you want to respond with a disagreement, show how any other peice surpassed (or even tied) in modeling and texturing. This is my last day on this e-mail account, so I won't be recieving the digest anymore, but I just finally had to say something about the rankings of the winners, now and in the past I have really fealt disallusioned ;)with the still image contest, it has nothing to do with my work (I have only entered a couple times in 5 or 6 years and felt fine with my placements), I just feel sorry for the people who are losing to work that is less than theirs. Not a rant at Roman or Caligari, but the judging has been a mystery to the masses for quite some time, many are bewildered on many an occasion. Well to show no hard feelings I will try to enter a farwell image in next months gallery, rip me as necessary if it even gets noticed.
I want to repeat my congratulations to everyone in the galleries, it is not that I think anyone's is bad, it is just time and again the judges seem to fall under the spell of shiny objects or atmospheric lighting effects without rewarding modeling/rendering/compostion with an emphasis on subject matter and complexity. Just my two cents (actually many feel this way based on the comments spread across the internet in many forums), farwell digest.
