Isn't the Marquee tool just as good ?when used with shift /control it gets the
job done.

I've been enjoying using the UV editor in Carrara3. Great job Eovia.
However, making selections on parts of a model can be very
time-consuming. I really would love to see a lasso selection tool added
to the vertex modeler and in the UV editor. I think it would greatly
improve the ability and speed of isolating sections on a model or map
for selective texturing. Any chance of seeing this added in V4? Amapi 7
has a lasso tool.
