The only case i've made money with web3d was with cycore's cult3d
technology. The licencing fee is quite a lot, plugins run in in all
windows, mac versions and also on linux and solaris. You can embed
the viewer and objects into office documents or into pdf-document.
This cross-platform availability and the fact that it could run
inside technical documents etc was the reason client wanted to go
that way. The distribution licence cost something like 2000$. Also
the quality was thought out to be better than rivals at that time.

Authoring environment runs only on windows, but it is awesome! Very
easy to use. For most complicated, interactive tasks you don't have
to write a single line of code! If you want to, you can enhance it
with javascript and java. It has exporters for couple of highend 3d
packages, but i remember that it at least used to work with imported
models as well. It also used to ship with strata3d...

Artists and designers can get a free distribution licence for
showing their non-commercial work. Commercial licences for web-
stores are quite expensive. If you liked to try web 3d, it's worth
to take a look at it.
