Newbie - mel - Getting points, vrtx or controlpoints

This is great ... but I'm also after a way to select the cv's to begin
with using mel. I'm creating a shape with mel, which I then need walk
through its cv's.
So I either need to find a way to automatically select all the CV's or
somehow get a list of them.

Thank you ... I'm learning a lot so far.
