The problem with post-processing effects is already well known : sinc ethe final image generally doesn't includes the necessary data, the effect is not very good compared to effects that can e computed at the rendering time. An exemplary case is the depth of field. I was very disappointed on that matter when C3 arrived and I could test it. The problem is the following : - if the focus is on the front objects, and the blur on the background, there is no special difficulty. - but if the foreground is blured and the focus in the background there is a problem of so-called "missing information". To accurately calculate the DOP effect, you need information about objects hidden by the foreground objects. If you do a post-rendering DOP, that is if you calculate it from a 2D image, you can never acheive a correct effect in this case because you cannot extract from a 2D image information about objects hidden by foreground objects. The only solution is to compute the DOP t the rendering time, when all the scene data are available. Unfortunately, the C3 DOP, being some kind of post-rendering effect, still fails in using hidden data and thus fail in producing correct DOP. I even found that Photoshop plug-ins produce a better effect than C3 on this regard, which is very bad since C3 is in a much better position to acheive a correct DOP.
