I am not screaming at all. Just like you painting HDRI images, I have successfully translated plain 16,7 Millions colors pictures into faked HDRI and it just works perfectly great under specific circumstances.
True, there are some HDRI purists out there in the wild that may scream but as you do I think that the whole 3D thing is faking reality, so as long as the desired effect is there at the end, there is no shame in painting an HDRI image by hand.
Epistimologicaly, HDRI images done with a camera are no more the reality than a painted HDRI image. Both are just a fruit of the human mind, not a fruit of reality. And final 3D images are not the reality, just a product of the recipient mind.
