(Third try at sending this)

Thanks everyone,

It's still a WIP, but I think I'm almost done with it.  I used the
"Cooter"
model from Facial Animator as the basic model.

I used Facial Animator to make one image out of a front and side photo,
then I
edited the resulting texture in photoshop, smoothing things out,
enhancing
bits, etc..  I then played with some bump maps and reflectance shaders
(still
not quite satisfied with the reflectance yet)

For those who don't know about it yet, there is a great site where you
can get
human textures for reference material http://www.3d.sk/ .  There are
several
hi-rez (1,300 x 1,600) front and side head photos available.  There are
also
several full body scans (male/female nude/clothed).  They aren't free,
but for
only $20 you can download all of them (and there are 100's) for a month.

Here's an example of the image resolution on the old man texture I used:

The hair was made with a TSX that I got from someone (Jonathan G. Koehn)
who
posted a link on the Forum about 3 or 4 months ago:
http://forum.caligari.com/discus/messages/1583/14139.html?1070267627

The trick to making decent hair with it is to have 5 or segments in each
hair
and to have an insane amount of strands (5,000 - 20,000) generated from
the
object.

P.S. Funny note: I just noticed that a testimonial by Peter Plantec
(author of
the trueSpace 2 Bible) is listed on the 3D.SK link
