Back First and foremost.. Bonjour! It would be nice to have a translator for 3dXtract - are you interested in that? As far as open-source? If it was feasible to go truly "open" I would. The problem is exactly how you described it...

I plan on producing something worth being a part of, but at the same time it needs to happen in a stages that are effective in both time, energy, and price range. I don't need to reinvent the wheel, just make it better. I think your approach is way more involved than I would like to see it. I was looking for more "input" on what would make it a great resource for Carrara and Amapi users (features, modifications). Also, I need to be responsible for it. Relying on others to stay with it would simply take it out of absolute control and cause more headaches than I need... Finding content each month is enough so far :)
